VCHS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
FEATURES TALK ON “AGATHA CHRISTIE, ARCHAEOLOGY AND ALZHEIMER'S”
On Thursday May 24th, The Victoria County Historical Society will conduct its Annual General Meeting at 7:00 pm, Thursday May 24th, in the Skylight Room of the Lindsay Inn, located at 354 Lindsay Street South in Lindsay. A short report on the year's activities will be followed by the election of officers for the Society's 2012-2013 Board of Directors.
Featured that evening will be our guest speaker, Dr. Amy Barron of Port Perry's Heritage Centre and Archives. Dr. Barron has a PhD in Ancient History and Archaeology from the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto. Her specialty is the ancient Assyrians, the rulers of much of the Middle East between 1000-600 BC.
In Lindsay, however, she will be presenting a fun talk she calls 'Agatha Christie, Archaeology, and Alzheimer's' If you don't know what these three things have in common, then join us to learn how the great mystery novelist's life is revealed within the pages of her books. Her love of the Middle East and the life she lived with her famous archaeologist husband provided the basis for many of her greatest novels including Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and Murder in Mesopotamia. And now her novels are being used to unravel the mysteries of the human mind.
The Historical Society offers a lively programme of general interest subjects with heritage appeal on a quarterly basis and all are welcome to attend. Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. The Speakers Series is conducted with the kind assistance of the City of Kawartha Lakes. Tom or Debbie Mohr may be contacted at 320-9979 for further information.
